Too many treats at the wrong times will produce a spoiled, overweight dog.

If you want to train your dog to avoid inside accidents, keep him or her on a tight schedule. Feed your dogs at the same time each day, and avoid giving them food or water before bedtime. This regulates their bodies so you can expect when they will need to go out.

Being patient, yet persistent and assertive is the key to training your dog to behave well. Obedience comes with rewards and punishments, and you can’t give up or the dog won’t change. Make sure the dog gets time outdoors to play and expend energy, and realize that it takes time to train.

Each time that you use your dog’s name as a warning or a reprimand, try to use it three to five other times in a positive way. Your pet needs to understand that his name can represent something good; he should not be afraid to come to you when he is called.
