Dog owners would occasionally witness the dog throwing up. The retching sound being made by a vomiting dog can make an owner vault as often times the pet would choose to upchuck the contents of the stomach on the carpet. As if one heap of vomitus is not enough for the master to clean, the dog would transfer to another corner to make another mound. Does the dog has a vengeful spirit?

Given the indiscriminate eating habits of dogs it would not be surprising if they throw up at the snap of a finger. Dogs have huge appetites not only for edible but also for non-edible objects. Objects that should not be in the stomach will be vomited by the dog. Vomiting is natures way of removing the offending objects. Dogs have gargantuan appetites. Dogs can finish off significant amounts of food in so short a time. Throwing up can be the result of the dogs fast eating habit as excess food that can no longer be accommodated by the stomach would have to be expulsed. The dogs vomiting can be acute or chronic. Throwing up, similar to bouts of diarrhea is common in dogs thus pet parents should not be too concerned more so if a change in behavior is not noticed in the pet. Acute vomiting is normally not a life threatening situation. Sudden vomiting usually results from the dogs insatiable eating habit so that when the excess content or the foreign body in the stomach is thrown up, the dog would act as if nothing happened. However, there are instances when acute vomiting would need immediate medical attention. Dogs have a curious personality. This curiosity may led to poisoning or a blockage in the intestinal tract. Throwing up caused by poisoning or blockage of the intestinal tract would need immediate medical attention.

A dog that appears to be healthy would throw up every now and then because of an undiagnosed medical condition. Dogs with chronic bouts of vomiting can have intestinal parasite infestation, parvovirus or distemper. Allergies, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease are other causes of chronic vomiting. Medical attention is mandatory for dogs with chronic vomiting as poor digestion can hamper the absorption of nutrients resulting not only to low energy level but also to poor physical appearance. Vomiting can seriously affect the health of the pet, a dog owner must ensure that the dog receives prompt medical attention.
