Dogs are fun to have around. They make very loyal companions. So what are you going to do if your dog starts annoying everybody and continually acting up? There is perhaps nothing worse than a dog that doesn’t behave, whether it won’t stop barking, chews everything in sight, bites your visitors, or digs up the entire backyard.

Such bad dog behavior can be extremely frustrating. And if you don’t know how to effectively correct the problem, then you’ll probably go crazy in a relatively short time.

The first way to prevent these problems before they happen is to get a puppy when it is still very young. After your little puppy comes to live with you, he – or she – will look to you for guidance and direction.  At this early stage you have a chance to teach and reinforce certain behaviors.

You can prevent dogs from biting. In most cases puppies do not intend to bite anyone. It usually starts out as playfully nipping at people. It is very important to teach your puppy not do this at an early age before it develops into more serious biting. It will take some time, scolding your dog when it tries to play like this, until it learns.

One of the worst bad dog behaviors is playing with items they shouldn’t. It might be shoes or children’s toys or something else, and the good news is it can be easily prevented. Dogs don’t know what is and isn’t acceptable to play with unless you teach help them to know. If you find your dog chewing on something it shouldn’t be, a firm “no” should teach them. After repeating this several times your dog will understand the rule and refrain from this behavior.

And how about this one – using your house as a toilet! Most new puppies love to relieve themselves wherever and whenever they feel the need. While this is, or course, natural behavior out in the wild, when dogs becomes pets we tend to view it as particularly bad behavior. It’s important for you to take your puppy outside at regular intervals so it becomes accustomed to not going inside the home.

Don’t forget that one important thing which will directly influence your dog’s behavior is your choice of dog food.
