How To Be Safe When Searching On The Net For Freebies
One thing about the Net is it’s filled with scam artists. One way to ensure you do not fall victim to this is to stick with websites that do not require you to pay for anything upfront or provide a credit card number at first. If they ask for a credit card number for their affiliate websites for offers you have to complete then that is fine. Just remember if you feel anxious about doing something then don’t.
I would say the easiest way to be safe while looking for freebies is start out with websites like craigslist.com and then do a few survey sites like surveysavy.com. These will give you some experience in how to get free stuff safely. These sites have been around for a few years. You can also search on the better business bureau online and search a business to see how they are and if there are any complaints about fraud or scams they may have done. The better business bureau also known as BBB Online provides services full of information about a company and if the problem was resolved or not.
Another way to be protected is do not give anyone bank or credit card information. If they ask for a PayPal account that is generally fine but never give out your password to anyone. They can really mess up your bank account if you do. They will never ask for mother’s maiden name or social security number. If any company or websiteasks for this information you should contact the BBB online and let them know.
One thing I have found useful is if you designate one email address or make a new email address for these offers as they will more than likely spam your email. I have one email I use specifically for this reason and I generally get about 50 emails per day from these sites and their partners. Some of their partners are some I never talked to or signed up for. When you get emails from partners that you have not done business with or talked to, it’s safest to not sign up for any of their offers. Some of these links contain viruses and spam links to other sites and can jeopardize your private files on your computer and take your information and sometimes sell it to other companies. This is not to say that all websites will do this or that they are all going to spam your email. This is just precautions just in case some of them do. You might even try to set up two or three emails. One email for surveys, one for free samples and one for personal use this can help organize what you have done.
Hopefully this hints and tips will save you some heartache.
